Christiane Brosius is a Full Professor of Visual and Media Anthropology at Heidelberg University, affiliated with the Karl Jaspers Centre. She specializes in South Asian studies, urban anthropology, and cultural heritage. Her roles include leading the Flagship Initiative Transforming Cultural Heritage and co-chairing the Shaping Asia Networking Initiative. Brosius holds a PhD from the University of Viadrina (2000) and a Habilitation from Heidelberg University (2008). Her research focuses on art’s role in urban spaces, cultural nationalism, and intergenerational dynamics in Nepal.

Research Interests: Brosius examines how art and media shape urban spaces, cultural identities, and socio-political movements. Recent projects include Heritage as Placemaking and studies on Kathmandu’s post-earthquake art ecology.
