Prof. Dr. Christian Zuidema is an Associate Professor of Spatial Planning at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Spatial Sciences. His research focuses on sustainable transformations, integrating energy planning, governance renewal, and adaptive strategies. He holds roles in the Groningen Energy and Sustainability Programme and the International Urban Planning & Environment Association (IUPEA).
Education:
- PhD in Spatial Sciences (2011) with dissertation on decentralization in environmental governance
- Master's in Environment and Infrastructure Planning (2003)
Research Interests: Environmental planning, integrated energy systems, sustainable urban management, governance innovation, and offshore spatial planning. Recent work emphasizes renewable energy integration, marine spatial conflicts, and stakeholder-driven decision-making frameworks.
Publications: Recent articles address geospatial modelling for rural electrification, offshore wind farm spatial conflicts, and regional energy scenario tools. Themes include energy transition governance, marine policy integration, and decentralized energy initiatives.
