Christian R. Huyck is a Professor of Artificial Intelligence at Middlesex University, affiliated with the School of Science and Technology and the Department of Computer Science. He has taught courses like Developing Artificial Intelligence, Computational Neural Modeling, and Advanced Topics in Games Development, with a focus on AI education and outreach.
- Education: Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Sussex (1998), M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Sussex (1995), and B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Sussex (1992).
His research centers on neural processing, particularly cell assemblies, and their applications in Natural Language Processing and computational neuroscience. He has contributed to neuromorphic embodied agents via the CABot project (funded by EPSRC and the Human Brain Project) and explores how Hebbian connectionist systems model human cognition.
He has delivered over 15 recent lectures and workshops, including topics spanning deep learning, computational neuroscience, and data mining. These talks highlight his interdisciplinary approach, bridging AI with psychology, education, and game development. Scientific awards include significant research grants from EPSRC and the Human Brain Project.
Huyck supervises numerous BSc and MSc theses and currently mentors two PhD students. He leads the Middlesex AI research group and collaborates on projects like the Cognitive Architectures Competition. His outreach includes talks to sixth-formers and foundation neuroscience students, emphasizing AI’s educational and practical impact.
