Prof. Christian Meltendorf is a Professor of Ophthalmology, Physiological Optics, and Optometry at Berlin University of Technology (Department VII - Optics/Optometry). He holds specialist certification in ophthalmology from the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO). His career includes research at the Institute for Clinical Neuroanatomy (Frankfurt, 2001-2008), specialist training at Frankfurt's University Eye Clinic, and senior physician roles at University Eye Clinics in Halle (2008-2014) and Magdeburg (2014-2016) before transitioning to academia.
Research focuses on corneal preservation via vitrification, signaling pathways of regulated cell death in corneal keratocytes, and high-resolution nanoCT imaging of the anterior eye segment. Collaborators include Dr. Jan Schroeter (Charité University Tissue Bank) and Professors Carsten Lübke and Rainer Schneider at TU Berlin.
Teaching responsibilities include anatomy/physiology, pathology, clinical optometry internships, neuro-ophthalmology, and surgical co-management. Clinical expertise spans general ophthalmology, keratoplasty, cataract surgery, and corneal disease management.
