Christian Luschnig

Christian Luschnig is an Associate Professor at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), affiliated with the Institute of Molecular Plant Biology under the Department of Biotechnology and Food Sciences. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of plant adaptation, particularly the role of phytohormones, chromatin structure, auxin transport, and plant developmental biology.

His work has significantly advanced understanding of PIN-FORMED (PIN) proteins in auxin transport, including their ubiquitination, endosomal sorting, and regulation of root gravitropism. Recent studies explore interactions between auxin and brassinosteroid signaling, stress-induced epigenetic changes, and applications in soybean drought adaptation. Articles highlight themes in plant molecular biology, cellular processes, and environmental stress responses.

Christian Luschnig has received several scientific honors, including the BOKU Best Paper Award (2014), ÖGGGT Best Paper Award (2003), APART Fellowship (2000), and Schroedinger Fellowship (1996). He has supervised numerous PhD and Master’s theses on topics like PIN regulation, TOL proteins, and stress signaling in plants.
