Christian Liebl is a researcher at the Phonogrammarchiv of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, where he has been associated since 1994. His primary responsibilities include co-editing the archive’s CD series The Complete Historical Collections 1899–1950, managing its yearbook International Forum on Audio-Visual Research, providing user support, and overseeing library operations.

Liebl’s research focuses on archival science, audio-visual research, and cultural heritage, particularly the historical development of the Phonogrammarchiv’s collections and gramophone recordings from 1899–1950. His work bridges historical research, digital archiving, and the preservation of intangible cultural assets.
Notable awards include the Wiener Preis für Kuratorentätigkeit (2013) and his election as a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London (2024). Liebl has collaborated on talks related to metadata, archival practices, and the Phonogrammarchiv’s role in cultural memory preservation.
