Christian Hammons

Christian Hammons is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Critical Media Practices at the University of Colorado Boulder. He holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology (2010) and an MFA in Film Production (USC School of Cinematic Arts). His roles include Associate Chair of Graduate Studies and Associate Director of the Center for Documentary and Ethnographic Media. His research focuses on marginalized communities, indigeneity, and ethnographic filmmaking.

Hammons' work bridges anthropology and media, emphasizing participatory projects and documentary practices. He has collaborated with organizations like PBS and Disney Channel, and co-founded Deranged Penguin Productions. His teaching spans courses on media aesthetics, visual anthropology, and Southeast Asian studies.

Current projects include American Refuge, examining homelessness in the American West, and ongoing ethnographic work with Indigenous communities in Indonesia and North Dakota.
