Christian Blasberg

Christian Blasberg is a Lecturer and researcher for Contemporary European History at LUISS University Rome's School of Government, where he serves as the academic coordinator of the Master in European Studies (MES). He maintains teaching positions at multiple institutions including the University of Heidelberg (since 2001), Upter University of Rome (since 2000), University of Montréal (as a visiting professor in 2010 and 2011), and LUISS University Rome (since 2008).

Blasberg earned his Ph.D. in Contemporary History and Political Sciences from the University of Heidelberg in 2004. His academic career includes research collaborations with the Luigi Einaudi Foundation in Rome, the Tardini Institute, and Telma University in Rome. In 2008, he was appointed scientific advisor for the Luigi Einaudi exhibition at the Quirinals Palace in Rome.

As an expert on the political history of European Liberalism and the Extreme Right, Blasberg's research focuses on the Giolitti period in Italy and comparative studies of European liberalisms after World War II. His scholarly work spans 20th-century European history, post-World War II Italian history, French history during the Third and Fourth Republics, and the history of conflict in the European region. His methodological approach combines political, intellectual, and diplomatic history to examine the evolution of liberal thought and political movements across Europe.

Blasberg's publications reveal a consistent scholarly trajectory examining the complexities of Italian political history, particularly regarding the Italian Liberal Party (PLI) and its evolution through different historical periods. His work frequently appears in specialized journals such as the Jahrbuch zur Liberalismus-Forschung, Ventunesimo Secolo and Scena Illustrata, demonstrating his focus on the intersection of political ideology, historical context, and institutional development across European political landscapes.

His monograph Die Liberale Linke und das Schicksal der Dritten Kraft im italienischen Zentrismus, 1947-1951 represents a significant scholarly contribution to understanding the challenges faced by liberal political movements in post-war Italy. Blasberg continues to expand his research with forthcoming works including I liberali e la Repubblica. Storia del PLI tra 1943 e 1993 and studies on social liberalism during the Giolitti era.
