Christian André Drevon is a Professor at the University of Oslo’s Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, specializing in Molecular Nutrition. His academic career includes roles as Chair of the Section for Dietary Research at the Institute for Nutrition Research. He holds an MD from the University of Oslo (1970) and a Dr. med. thesis (1977) on cholesteryl ester metabolism. His research focuses on lipid metabolism, energy homeostasis, adipokines, and myokines, with emphasis on nutrient-physical activity interactions and health implications of perinatal nutrition.
Education and Professional Background: Drevon completed his MD in 1970, followed by research fellowships and a postdoctoral stint at the University of California, San Diego (1977–79). He became an Associate Professor in Pharmacology (1979) and later a Professor in Nutrition Research (1988). He has held leadership roles, including Associated Head of the National Institute of Forensic Toxicology and co-founder/president of the Nutrigenomics (NuGO) Association.
Research Interests: Drevon’s work examines lipid absorption, adipocyte signaling, and exercise-induced metabolic adaptations. He investigates how nutrients and physical activity influence gene regulation, with applications to metabolic diseases like diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. His recent studies include personalized nutrition (Food4Me EU project) and brain health biomarkers (Lifebrain consortium).
Key Collaborations: He collaborates with researchers across Europe, North America, and Asia. Notable projects include the EU-funded Food4Me study on personalized nutrition and the Lifebrain initiative exploring brain aging and lifestyle factors.
Labs/Teams: His research group focuses on Molecular Metabolism within the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences. He leads studies on metabolic pathways, exerkine discovery, and translational nutrition science.
