Christer Halldin is a Professor of Medicinal Radiochemistry at Karolinska Institutet and Director of the Karolinska Institutet PET Centre. Born in Stockholm in 1953, he has dedicated his career to advancing PET imaging and radioligand development.
- B.Sc., Chemistry - Uppsala University, 1978
- Ph.D., Organic Chemistry and Radiochemistry - Uppsala University, 1984
- Postdoctoral Scientist - Brookhaven National Laboratory, 1984-1985
Halldin's research focuses on Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Molecular Imaging, and Radioligand Development, with applications in neuroreceptor studies and drug development. His work has led to breakthroughs in dopamine receptor imaging and understanding antipsychotic drug mechanisms.
His scientific awards include multiple Marie Curie Awards (1992, 1998, 2001, 2005, 2009), the Heikki Wendelin Award (2011), and recognition for his 1998 Springer Verlag publication. He has served as Chairman of the Drug Development Committee at the European Association of Nuclear Medicine since 2005.
Halldin has led major international projects, including the Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI) NEWMEDS program (2009-2014), COST Action networks, and Human Frontier Science Program grants. His laboratory specializes in neuroinflammation imaging and diagnostics in molecular imaging through projects like INMIND and DIMI.
