Chris Thomas is a Professor of Molecular Genetics at the Biosciences Institute of Microbiology and Infection. His research focuses on bacterial plasmids, mobile DNA, and polyketide antibiotic biosynthesis, with applications in combating antibiotic resistance.
Research Interests:
- Investigating bacterial plasmid replication, segregation, and horizontal gene transfer mechanisms
- Engineering mupirocin and thiomarinol for improved MRSA treatments
- Developing plasmid displacement technologies to eliminate antibiotic resistance genes
Recent Publications: Highlight trends in plasmid biology, antibiotic resistance, and genomic analysis of production strains.
Projects: Actively leads BBSRC-funded initiatives (2018-2024) including the pCURE system for biological containment and mass spectrometry tools for proteomics.
