Dr. Chris Pak is a Lecturer in English Literature at Swansea University, within the School of Culture and Communication. His research focuses on Science Fiction’s engagement with climate change, terraforming, and geoengineering, emphasizing how speculative narratives interrogate ecological, ethical, and societal challenges. He holds a BA, MA, and PhD from the University of Liverpool, with post-doctoral work on corpus linguistics and digital humanities projects. Key collaborations include跨学科 projects with psychology, biosciences, and engineering departments, as well as external partnerships like the Biophilic Center of Excellence. His work bridges environmental humanities, utopian studies, and digital culture, advocating for critical awareness of sustainability through science fiction.
Research interests span speculative fiction’s role in envisioning environmental futures, biophilic design, and the intersections of science, literature, and technology. Recent projects involve community-based speculative storytelling in Swansea and exploring agricultural futures in Welsh science fiction. He supervises PhD students in areas like post-capitalist societies and transnational cultural studies.
Publications include Terraforming: Ecopolitical Transformations and Environmentalism in Science Fiction (2016) and articles analyzing works by Robinson, Slonczewski, and others. He teaches modules on graphic novels, creative writing, and digital media, emphasizing critical engagement with genre and form.
