معرفی
Chris Osburn is a Professor in the Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at North Carolina State University, and Director of the Blue Economy Innovation Program. His research focuses on geospatial analytics to study how land use and extreme weather events impact coastal biogeochemistry, particularly carbon and nutrient cycling in rivers, estuaries, and lakes.
Education: Ph.D. in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Lehigh University (2000), B.A. in Geological Sciences and B.S. in Public Affairs from Indiana University (1995 and 1991).
Research Interests: Aquatic biogeochemistry of lakes, rivers, and coastal waters; effects of extreme weather on carbon cycles; photochemical and microbial degradation of organic matter. His work integrates field sampling, laboratory analysis, and modeling to study DOM dynamics and carbon fluxes.
Publications span 20+ years, emphasizing optical properties of organic matter, algorithm development for DOM source apportionment, and climate-driven changes in Arctic and coastal ecosystems. Recent work highlights DOC accumulation in aerobic systems and impacts of tropical cyclones on nutrient cycling.
- Awards: University Faculty Scholar (NC State)
Advising and Grants: Leads the Osburn Biogeochemical Lab; active in securing grants for coastal carbon studies and blue economy initiatives. Collaborates on projects involving sensor networks for real-time water quality monitoring.
Labs/Teams: Osburn Biogeochemical Laboratory, part of the Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences department at NC State.
