Chris Langdon is a Professor in the Department of Marine Biology & Ecology at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science, University of Miami. His research focuses on coral reef metabolism, ocean acidification, and marine biogeochemistry.
Research Themes:
- Climate change impacts on coral physiology and reef carbonate dynamics
- Experimental approaches to ocean alkalinity enhancement for carbon dioxide removal
- Development of standardized oceanographic data protocols
- Metabolic responses of marine organisms to hypoxia and acidification
Key Grants: Funded by the National Science Foundation, Packard Foundation, Conservation International, and Wildlife Conservation Society for the South Florida Corals and Climate Change Laboratory. This lab investigates coral responses to combined warming and acidification stressors using controlled environments.
Laboratory Highlights: The lab maintains Caribbean coral species Montastraea faveolata and Porites furcata under precise CO2 and temperature conditions. Research includes satellite validation efforts and global carbon budget synthesis.
