Chris Hale

Chris Hale is an Associate Professor at the College of Staten Island, CUNY, with a focus on special education and literacy for marginalized students. His work addresses systemic issues in urban education and the intersection of disability, social class, and educational policy.

Hale’s research investigates the stigmatization of students with learning disabilities, particularly how privileged families navigate special education systems. He advocates for teacher preparation programs that empower educators to critically examine institutional practices affecting disabled students.

His publications include studies on the LD experience in urban contexts and the role of social class in avoiding stigma. Two recent articles (2010–2011) explore these themes, focusing on policy implications and family dynamics.
