Chris Hakala is a Professor of Psychology and Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship (CETLS) at Springfield College. His work bridges cognitive psychology research with practical classroom strategies, focusing on optimizing teaching methods and faculty development. He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of New Hampshire (1995), an M.A. in Experimental/Cognitive Psychology (1992), and a B.A. in Psychology from Castleton State College (1990).
As CETLS Director, he leads initiatives to enhance teaching quality through workshops, consultations, and evidence-based practices. The Center emphasizes student-centered learning, integrating Springfield College’s mission of Mind, Body, Spirit into educational strategies. His research translates findings from the science of learning into actionable techniques for educators, ensuring alignment with institutional values and student needs.
With over 25 years of higher education experience, Hakala previously directed teaching centers at Western New England University and Quinnipiac University. He actively engages in professional development, presenting nationally on topics like effective classroom management, large-class engagement, and assessment methodologies.
