Associate Professor Chris Freeman is a leading pharmacist and clinician-researcher at the University of Queensland (UQ), holding dual appointments in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine. He also serves as a Consultant Pharmacist at Camp Hill Healthcare and Board Director of the Brisbane South Primary Health Network. His work focuses on improving medication safety, deprescribing practices, and pharmacist roles in collaborative healthcare. Freeman has led over 80 publications and secured $7M in grants, including prestigious NHMRC and MRFF awards.
Education: PhD in Pharmacy Practice from UQ (2012). Professional roles include former National President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (2018–22).
Research interests emphasize optimizing medication use, reducing polypharmacy-related harm, and advancing telehealth strategies. Recent projects include the REMAIN HOME trial to reduce hospital readmissions via medication optimization and the ENGAGEMENT trial addressing antimicrobial stewardship in aged care.
Key achievements include the RSAP annual best paper award and recognition as a Fellow of PSA and the Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences. His grants and awards reflect contributions to both clinical practice and professional pharmacy development.
