Chris Evans

Chris Evans is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), part of the College of Engineering. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University. His research focuses on dynamic polymer networks, exploring their physics and chemistry to develop advanced materials for energy storage, actuators, and thermal management. Key projects include using synthetic polypeptides to design solid-state materials with enhanced properties.

His work emphasizes ion transport, self-healing polymers, and crystallization dynamics, with applications in supercapacitors, batteries, and sustainable coatings. Notable achievements include the development of ultra-thin self-healing coatings for durable hydrophobicity.
