Prof Chris Bird is a Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the School of Psychology, University of Sussex, and Director of Sussex Neuroscience since 2021. With a career spanning two decades in memory research, he has held academic roles at UCL and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

His research combines behavioral paradigms and fMRI to explore episodic memory, hippocampal function, and memory breakdown in neurological conditions like Alzheimer's disease. Recent publications focus on APOE genetics, color perception, and neural mechanisms of memory.
He supervises the Episodic Memory Group and offers expertise in science communication, public engagement, and consultancy related to memory systems.
