Professor Chris Askew is a Professor in Clinical Exercise Physiology at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), School of Health. He holds adjunct positions at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service. His expertise focuses on exercise physiology in chronic diseases, particularly peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA).
Education: PhD (Queensland University of Technology), BAppSc(Hons) (RMIT University). Prior roles include academic positions at Queensland University of Technology (2011–2013) and USC (2005–2011), and a Research Fellow at University of Queensland (2000–2004).
Research interests include pathophysiology of exercise intolerance, ischemia effects, muscle metabolism, and recovery strategies for athletes. He leads the VasoActive research group involving 8 PhD, 3 Masters students, and collaborates with NHMRC NCRE-PAD and Queensland Cardiovascular Research Network. Professional roles include Chair of ESSA Professional Standards Council and Exercise is Medicine Australia Advisory Council.
Labs/Teams: Leads Inflammation and Healing (Inflame) Research Cluster and Cluster for Health Improvement (CHI) at USC.
