Chris Anderson

Chris Anderson is the Ralf Dahrendorf Professor of European Politics and Society at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), affiliated with the European Institute. His research explores the intersection of democracy, markets, and public opinion, with a focus on European politics and citizen behavior.

His key research interests include:

• Public opinion and political behavior
• Political economy
• European integration
• Satisfaction with democracy
• Welfare states and citizen attitudes
• Immigrant political behavior in Europe
• Football and sports analytics

Anderson has made significant contributions to political science, particularly in understanding the micro-foundations of democratic systems. His interdisciplinary work in sports analytics, notably through the book The Numbers Game, has extended his influence beyond academia into the sports industry. He regularly speaks at major analytics conferences, including MIT’s Sloan Sports Analytics Conference.

His scientific honors include the prestigious Heinz Eulau Award from the American Political Science Association and the Best Article Award from the Journal of Politics. He has also served as President of APSA sections on European Politics & Society and Elections, Public Opinion, and Voting Behavior, and has been on the editorial boards of leading journals.

Anderson has held academic appointments at Rice University, Northwestern University, SUNY, Syracuse, Oxford, Cornell, and the University of Warwick. He is currently active in his role at LSE, advising students and contributing to public discourse. He serves on the Board of Trustees for the American School in London.
