Dr. Chris A. Kiesling serves as Professor of Discipleship and Human Development at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. He holds a B.A. in General Studies from Texas Tech University (1985), an M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary (1990), and a Ph.D. from Texas Tech University (2002).
His research spans critical areas of faith development:
- Discipleship and Human Development across lifespan stages
- Identity and Faith Formation in emerging adulthood
- Moral Development within Christian frameworks
- Family systems and marriage dynamics in spiritual contexts
- Campus ministry strategies for young adults
Dr. Kiesling's scholarly contributions include co-authoring Spiritual Formation in Emerging Adulthood: A Practical Theology for College and Young Adult Ministry with David Setran and contributing to Does the Shape of Families Shape Faith?, alongside numerous articles in theological and clergy journals. His work consistently bridges academic research with practical ministry applications.
Prior to academia, he served as pastor at Manchester United Methodist Church (1989-1993) and associate pastor at First United Methodist Church in Lubbock (1993-1998), while concurrently working as campus minister at Henderson State/Ouachita Baptist Universities (1989-1993).
He resides in Kentucky with his wife Suzanne and their two sons, maintaining active connections through Asbury's extension campuses in Florida, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Colorado.
