Choi Shin-hyun

Professor Choi Shin-hyun is a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), where he leads research in neuromorphic semiconductors and artificial sensory systems. His work focuses on developing next-generation semiconductor technologies that mimic biological neural functions.

His primary research interests include Neuromorphic Semiconductors, Artificial Sensory Nervous Systems, and Neuro-inspired Robotics. Professor Choi's team develops technologies that enable robots to perceive and respond to environmental stimuli with human-like efficiency while minimizing energy consumption.

His recent publication in Nature Communications demonstrates significant advancements in memristor technology that can simulate biological neural responses such as habituation and sensitization, opening new possibilities for medical and specialized robotics applications.

Professor Choi's research has been supported by multiple national projects including the National Research Foundation of Korea's Next-Generation Intelligent Semiconductor Technology Development Project, Mid-career Researcher Project, and PIM Artificial Intelligence Semiconductor Core Technology Development Project.

He currently advises graduate students including Park Si-on, a combined master's and doctoral candidate who served as first author on the recent Nature Communications paper.
