Chloe Zimmerman serves as a Critic in the Digital + Media department at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she is an active artist, filmmaker, writer, and educator specializing in analogue film, video, installation, drawing, language art, and experimental pedagogy.
Her academic foundation includes an MFA from Brown University, and her teaching extends beyond traditional universities to community biology labs, floating food forests, public libraries, parks, and multilingual learner spaces across institutions like Brown University and Massachusetts College of Art & Design.
Zimmerman's research explores intersections of digital media, mycology, and relational practices through community-based frameworks. Her work emphasizes entanglement, correspondence, and interdisciplinary learning outcomes, often contextualized within ecological and social environments.
She has been recognized with prestigious awards including:
- LEF Flaherty Fellowship
- SMFA Traveling Fellowship
- UnionDocs Collaborative Fellowship
Zimmerman founded the Mycological Research Playgroup for artist-fungal collaboration and Meshwork, a study group examining correspondence and relational dynamics. Her film screenings at venues such as the Criterion Channel, Anthology Film Archives, and MoMA PS1 demonstrate her integration of artistic practice with institutional exhibition contexts.
