معرفی
Chiu Cheng is a marine ecologist and researcher at HZ University of Applied Sciences, specializing in biogeomorphology and biogeochemistry of subtidal and intertidal habitats. He holds a BSc in Environmental Science (Moravian University, 2009) and an MSc in Biological Oceanography (Florida State University, 2013). His PhD (NIOZ, 2021) investigated bidirectional interactions between biotic/abiotic seafloor components and sediment dynamics. He has worked as a project leader at Wageningen Marine Research and currently serves as a coastal ecologist with the Building with Nature research group, focusing on Southwest Delta projects.
Education:
- Bachelor's in Environmental Science, Moravian University (2009)
- Master's in Biological Oceanography, Florida State University (2013)
- PhD in Marine Ecology at NIOZ (2021)
Research Interests:
Chiu's work centers on sediment-seabed interactions, including sand wave dynamics, benthic community distributions, and the impact of human-engineered measures on coastal ecosystems. His research combines field observations, hydrodynamic modeling, and sediment analysis to address challenges in coastal management and restoration.
Key Research Themes:
- Effects of sediment composition on sand ripple migration
- Biogeomorphological feedback mechanisms in tidal systems
- Evaluation of coastal engineering impacts on marine habitats
Current Projects:
He leads monitoring initiatives in the Southwest Delta, assessing dike measures' ecological impacts and optimizing sediment management strategies through the Building with Nature framework.
