Chinyere Okoro is a Lecturer in Bacteriology at the University of Surrey's School of Biosciences within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. She holds a PhD (Cantab) from the University of Cambridge, an MSc in Industrial and Commercial Biotechnology from Newcastle University, and a BSc in Industrial Microbiology from Nigeria. Her work focuses on understanding the epidemiology and genetic variation of enteric pathogens, combining whole-genome sequencing with clinical data to track disease spread. She collaborates with Prof Iruka Okeke at the University of Ibadan and Haverford College. Okoro teaches undergraduate modules like BMS1035 (Practical and Biomedical Bacteriology) and supervises postgraduate research. Her research emphasizes One Health principles, bacterial genomics, and public engagement to combat antimicrobial resistance.
Her publications analyze multidrug-resistant bacterial clones, fluoroquinolone resistance in Africa, and plasmid-mediated antibiotic resistance in Salmonella. Current research explores how genetic and phenotypic traits influence pathogen transmission dynamics.
