Dr. Chinami Oka is the Tanaka Junior Research Fellow in Japanese Studies at Pembroke College, University of Oxford. A historian specializing in transnational intellectual movements, she investigates socio-cultural phenomena beyond nation-state frameworks in modern Japan (1860s-1920s). Her research critically examines Western modernity paradigms and promotes alternative historical methodologies.
Education:

Research Focus: Dr. Oka analyzes cross-border intellectual networks challenging state-endorsed modernization ideologies. Her book project explores collaborative resistance movements involving Japanese samurai, educators, farmers, and international allies (Russian, American, British, Korean), advocating universal human progress outside imperial frameworks.
