Chezare A. Warren is an Associate Professor at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, holding dual appointments in the Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations and the Department of Teaching and Learning. His research focuses on race, intersectional justice, and Black students’ educational success and wellbeing. He is the Principal Investigator of THE POSSIBILITIES PROJECT, an arts-informed research hub in Black Education. Warren has held visiting roles at Stanford, NYU, and the University of Pennsylvania, and is a 2024 TED Speaker. Notable awards include two AERA Early Career Awards and a 2019 Ford Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Education: PhD in Urban Education Policy (University of Illinois at Chicago), MBA (Northwestern Kellogg), MA in School Leadership (Concordia Chicago), and BS in Elementary Education (UIUC).
Research emphasizes dismantling antiblackness in education, fostering anti-carceral school environments, and rehumanizing Black students’ experiences. His work bridges empirical scholarship and artistic expression, as seen in his award-winning books *Urban Preparation* (2017) and *Centering Possibility in Black Education* (2021). He has secured $1.3M in grants from foundations like Spencer and Kellogg.
Upcoming roles include the inaugural visiting scholar at Columbia University’s Edmund W. Gordon Institute. His interdisciplinary approach combines pedagogical innovation, policy advocacy, and community engagement to reimagine equitable education systems.
