Professor Cheryl Potgieter is a distinguished academic affiliated with the Durban University of Technology as the Director of Gender Justice, Health and Human Development and Head of the Research and Doctoral Leadership Academy (RADLA). She also holds a Visiting Professor (Non-Residential) position at the University College London Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction. Her career includes leadership roles such as Deputy Vice Chancellor and Head of the College of Humanities at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), Dean of Research at UKZN, and professorial positions at the University of Pretoria and the University of the Western Cape.
Her research and professional work focus on the intersections of Psychology, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Social Justice. She has contributed to Higher Education policy, particularly in gender-related domains, and leads the global Gender Responsive Resilience and Intersectionality in Policy and Practice (GRRIPP) project as its Africa Head. Her academic leadership extends to consulting for both the private sector and NGOs, emphasizing equity and human rights.
