Cheryl Blake Price is a Professor of English and Associate Dean for Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of North Alabama's College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering. Her research focuses on 19th-century British literature, crime fiction, literature and science, ecocriticism, and literature and medicine. She holds degrees from Appalachian State University (B.A., 2003), University of North Carolina at Wilmington (M.A., 2006), and Florida State University (Ph.D. in Victorian Literature, 2012).
Dr. Price’s work examines intersections between science and criminal narratives, notably in her book Chemical Crimes: Science and Poison in Victorian Crime Fiction (2019). Her publications span Victorian crime fiction’s evolution, ecological themes, and medical ethics in literature. She teaches a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses in British literature and transatlantic studies. She served as President of the Victorians Institute (2022-2023) and is affiliated with the Restorative Justice Lab at her institution.
Her research highlights innovative uses of poison as a narrative device to challenge gender norms and scientific authority, tracing shifts in crime fiction through chemical and forensic advancements. Beyond academia, her work bridges literary analysis with historical scientific discourse and societal anxieties.
