Cheryl Bailey, Ph.D. serves as Dean of the School of Natural and Health Sciences at Mount Mary University. With a background in biochemistry education, she leads academic initiatives focused on innovative teaching methods and curriculum development in the health and natural sciences.
Her research interests center on biochemistry education, with particular emphasis on active learning strategies like POGIL (Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning), educational assessment tools, and integrating research experiences into undergraduate curriculum. Her work demonstrates a commitment to improving science education through evidence-based teaching practices and assessment methodologies.
Dr. Bailey's publications reveal a consistent focus on enhancing biochemistry education through innovative pedagogical approaches. Her research examines how structured inquiry methods can be effectively implemented in large lecture settings, how to assess foundational concepts in biochemistry, and how to integrate research experiences into undergraduate coursework. These efforts reflect her dedication to transforming science education through practical, implementable strategies.
Dr. Bailey has secured significant funding for her educational initiatives, including an NSF RCN-UBE grant for promoting concept-driven teaching strategies in biochemistry and molecular biology. She has also served on the Education Committee of the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology since 2007.
Her professional activities demonstrate leadership in science education, with presentations at prestigious venues including the National Institutes of Health, Princeton University, Purdue University, and international ACS meetings. She is an active member of the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.
