Cheryl A. Stephenson

Cheryl A. Stephenson is a Lecturer in the Department of Russian at Bates College. She teaches courses focused on Russian language and youth culture in Eastern Europe, including Protestors, Punks, and Pioneers: Youth in Eastern Europe (EUS 111/RUSS 111) and Elementary Russian I (RUSS 101). Her work explores the intersection of student culture, social history, and contemporary Russian society.

Research interests include youth movements in East European contexts, Russian language pedagogy, and cultural storytelling through film, literature, and music. Course materials emphasize critical analysis of societal transformations in the 20th and 21st centuries.
