Cheng Chong is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University at Buffalo, part of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. His research is centered on advanced polymeric materials for biomedical applications, with a strong emphasis on drug and gene delivery systems.
Dr. Cheng's research interests lie in the design and synthesis of biodegradable functional polymers and nanostructures. These materials serve as scaffolds for biomedical and bioengineering applications, particularly in targeted therapeutic delivery and tissue engineering. His work integrates polymer chemistry, nanotechnology, and biomedical engineering to develop innovative solutions for overcoming biological barriers such as multidrug resistance in cancer therapy.
The research projects currently led by Dr. Cheng include the development of functional polylactides (PLAs) for enhanced drug and gene delivery, as well as the creation of crosslinked polymeric nanocapsules via miniemulsion techniques. These nanocapsules aim to improve delivery efficiency and enable co-delivery of drugs and genetic material, especially in challenging pathological environments.
Dr. Cheng’s laboratory focuses on creating scalable and controllable methodologies for producing well-defined nanostructures with tailored functionalities. His team works at the intersection of materials science and medicine, aiming to translate synthetic advances into clinically relevant technologies.
