Dr. Chen Zhong is an Associate Professor in Urban Analytics at the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) within the Bartlett Faculty at University College London (UCL). She holds a PhD in Architecture from ETH Zurich and previously served as Lecturer in Spatial Analysis at King's College London. Her research focuses on urban mobility, leveraging human location data, GeoAI, and spatial simulations to address socio-spatial inequalities, transport decarbonisation, and urban policy impacts. She leads the Urban Mobility Research Group, exploring global cities like London, Shenzhen, and Nairobi to inform sustainable urban planning.
Dr. Zhong's expertise spans geospatial data modelling, transport geography, and urban informatics. Her work integrates machine learning, spatial network analysis, and causal inference to analyze mobility patterns and urban structure evolution. She has contributed to projects such as mapping waste accumulation in Nairobi and analyzing pandemic-driven mobility changes in South Korea. She is committed to bridging academic research with real-world policy applications, emphasizing data-driven solutions for inclusive urban futures.
Her educational background includes a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from King's College London. She collaborates widely on interdisciplinary projects, advisory roles, and industry partnerships, with a focus on Sustainable Development Goals 11 (Sustainable Cities), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 13 (Climate Action). Her lab's work highlights innovative applications of big data and geospatial technologies to tackle urban challenges.
