Dr. Chen Yu-Wen is a Lecturer in the Department of Government at University College Cork, Ireland. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Political Science, Academia Sinica (Taiwan, 2011–2012) and is the Executive Editor of Asian Ethnicity (Routledge). Her research focuses on ethnic politics, transnational advocacy networks, and China’s minority policies, with particular attention to Uyghur and Tibetan issues. She holds a PhD in Social Sciences from the University of Konstanz (Germany) and has conducted research on geopolitical transitions in Taiwan and digital mapping technologies in China.

Her work analyzes ethnopolitical groups' strategies in Europe, the global activism of the World Uyghur Congress, and the intersection of technology with state sovereignty (e.g., China’s Tianditu mapping service). Recent publications address comparative ethnopolitical activism and the geopolitical implications of cartographic representation.
Dr. Chen’s research also explores the intersection of human rights diplomacy, such as Germany’s debate over Uyghur Guantanamo detainees, and methodological approaches to studying Chinese political texts. She contributes to interdisciplinary discussions on identity, advocacy, and state-minority relations in Asia.
