Chen Ji is a Professor in the Department of Earth Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). His research focuses on seismology and geophysics, particularly the source characterization of moderate-to-large earthquakes and developing novel algorithms for rapid earthquake analysis. He also explores scaling relations in earthquake sources and strong ground motion. His work integrates seismological and geodetic methods to advance understanding of seismic events.
Chen Ji's research also extends into materials science, as evidenced by his publications on graphene-based systems, moiré superlattices, and excitonic phenomena. These interdisciplinary studies investigate quantum materials, including interlayer excitons, topological phases, and correlated electron systems.
His recent publications highlight contributions to topics like superconductivity in trilayer graphene, valley-pseudospin ordering in moiré structures, and ultrafast optical imaging techniques for antiferromagnetic systems. These studies reflect his expertise in both geophysical and condensed matter physics.
Chen Ji is affiliated with UCSB's Earth Science department and contributes to the Seismology & Geophysics research group. He has an extensive publication record spanning over two decades, with a focus on both fundamental and applied research in his fields.
