Chen Huiyao serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Finance at Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management (SEM) since July 2025. His academic journey includes a PhD in Finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania (Class of 2025), a Master of Economics from Fudan University (2019), and a Bachelor of Economics with a focus on Mathematical Economics from Fudan University (2017).
Dr. Chen's research centers on the intersection of financial markets and the real economy, with particular expertise in sustainable investing practices. His work critically examines the effectiveness and authenticity of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives within corporate finance frameworks.
His recent publications analyze critical questions in sustainable finance, exploring both the paradoxical nature of ESG investing (distinguishing greenwashing from genuine impact) and the effectiveness conditions for ESG divestment strategies. These works reflect his focus on how financial market mechanisms interact with broader economic and environmental outcomes.

Dr. Chen teaches Advanced Corporate Finance Theory at the PhD level and Corporate Finance for undergraduate students. His office is located in Room B321, Lihua Building at Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management in Beijing.
