Chawan Rasheed

Dr. Chawan Rasheed serves as Adjunct Faculty at the University of Detroit Mercy Eye Institute since January 2024, specializing in corneal pathologies, specialty contact lens fitting, and systemic health impacts on ocular conditions.

Her academic credentials include:

• Doctor of Optometry (cum laude), Southern College of Optometry
• Bachelor of Science in Biology (cum laude), Christian Brothers University

Dr. Rasheed completed a postgraduate residency in Cornea and Specialty Contact Lens/Refractive Surgery (2020-2021) and has presented continuing education courses on anterior segment disease. Her clinical focus emphasizes patient education regarding holistic health connections to eye care, particularly in managing complex corneal conditions through advanced lens technologies.

As an active member of the American Optometric Association and Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians, she has participated in international medical missions across Mexico, Ecuador, and Belize. During her tenure at Southern College of Optometry, she supervised student clinicians in adult primary care, cornea/contact lens services, and nursing home settings.
