Charlène Gadais

Charlène Gadais is an Associate Professor at Université de Rennes 1, affiliated with the Pharmacy Faculty of Rennes. She conducts research in peptide science and medicinal chemistry, with a focus on therapeutic applications of peptides and peptidomimetics. Dr. Gadais specializes in the design, synthesis, and evaluation of therapeutic agents based on peptides and their mimetics. Her current research focuses on:

• Antimicrobial peptides and peptidomimetics design, synthesis and evaluation
• On-resin C-terminal peptides modifications by Boron motifs

Her work builds on her earlier research in fluorine-modified proteinogenic amino-acids synthesis and their impact on peptide physico-chemical properties including secondary structure control, hydrophobicity and membrane permeability. She collaborates with Biologists from IGDR (Rennes), Chemists from OMC team (ISCR), and OLGRAM start-up (specialized in antimicrobial peptides agents design and clinical tests).

Dr. Gadais's scientific production shows a consistent focus on fluorinated and trifluoromethylated amino acids and their applications in peptide design. Her research spans organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and structural biology, with particular emphasis on how chemical modifications affect peptide properties and potential therapeutic applications. Recent work has increasingly focused on antimicrobial applications and novel synthetic methodologies for peptide modification.

Her scientific contributions include publications in high-impact journals such as ACS Catalysis, Organic Letters, and Molecules, demonstrating her expertise in peptide chemistry and medicinal applications.

At the Pharmacy Faculty of Rennes, Dr. Gadais teaches organic chemistry, mineral chemistry, and therapeutic chemistry to 2nd and 3rd year pharmacy students. She also teaches general chemistry for DEUST "pharmacy assistant" programs, with instructional videos available on mediaserver.
