Charlotte Karem Albrecht is an Associate Professor of American Culture and Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. She holds a joint appointment in both departments and serves as core faculty in the Arab and Muslim American Studies (AMAS) program. She is affiliated with the Center for Middle Eastern and North African Studies (CMENAS) and the Race, Law, and History Program. Dr. Albrecht earned her Ph.D. in Feminist Studies from the University of Minnesota in 2013. Her research focuses on Arab American history, queer of color critique, and interdisciplinary methods, with a particular emphasis on gender, sexuality, and race. She is the author of Possible Histories: Arab Americans and the Queer Ecology of Peddling (2023), which explores the intersections of peddling economies, queer ecologies, and Arab American identity formation. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary social justice frameworks.
Her teaching spans courses in Arab American Studies, Ethnic Studies, and Gender and Women’s Studies. Current courses include Arab American Studies and the Social Sciences and Special Topics in Gender, Race, and Ethnicity in the U.S.. Dr. Albrecht’s research has been published in journals like Arab Studies Quarterly and Gender & History, alongside edited volumes. She actively contributes to interdisciplinary dialogues on race, migration, and feminist理论.
