Dr. Charlotte Jones is a Lecturer in Sociology at Swansea University’s School of Social Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Her research focuses on intersections of gender, sexuality, disability, and health, particularly theorizing medicalization of sex and supporting intersex communities. She has held roles at the University of Exeter (2019-2022), University of Edinburgh (2018-2019), and Brunel University (2016-2018). Notable projects include Reprofutures (exploring fertility and embodiment), Beers, Burgers + Bleach (Covid-19’s impact on hospitality workers), and The Beat of Our Hearts (LGBTQIA+ loneliness). Awards include an AHRC EDI Fellowship and the NCPPE Engage Award (2016). She co-founded the Queer Disability Studies Network and serves on The Sociological Review editorial board.
Teaching interests include social theory, feminist studies, disability sociology, and qualitative methods. Current supervision includes a PhD on intersectionality and sex work. Key grants include a £100k AHRC grant for The Beat of Our Hearts. Her work critiques medical overreach, advocates for bodily autonomy, and emphasizes community-driven research.
