Dr Charlotte Hemmings is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oxford's Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics, and Linguistics Organising Tutor at Worcester College. Her research focuses on language documentation, Austronesian linguistics, syntactic typology, and information structure. She leads the AHRC-funded project 'Enggano in the Austronesian family,' documenting the Enggano language through audio/video recordings, grammar development, and literacy materials. Previously, she held a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship (2016–2019), researching information structure in Northern Sarawak languages (Kelabit, Lun Bawang, Sa’ban). Her work bridges theoretical linguistics with practical documentation, emphasizing community-driven language preservation.
Education: PhD research into Kelabit language variation, building on earlier theoretical and historical debates in Western Austronesian studies. Academic background includes computational linguistics and sociolinguistic fieldwork methods.
