معرفی
Dr Charlotte Davies is a Lecturer in Biosciences at Swansea University, focusing on molecular ecology and marine disease dynamics. She holds a BSc (1st Class) and PhD from Swansea University, with postdoctoral research at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Her work explores how anthropogenic stressors like climate change and fishing impact marine diseases, particularly in crustaceans and shellfish. She has led projects such as the BlueFish initiative and SEACAMS2, investigating disease connectivity using eDNA methods.
Education:
- BSc Biology (1st Class Honours), Swansea University (2011)
- PhD in Biological Sciences, Swansea University (2015)
Research Interests: Davies' research bridges molecular ecology and marine conservation, emphasizing tropical marine ecosystems. She studies pathogens in economically critical species like lobsters and crabs, with recent focus on PaV1 virus in Caribbean spiny lobsters and Hematodinium parasites in shore crabs. Her work integrates field surveys, genetic analysis, and eDNA tools to track disease spread and ecological impacts.
Awards & Grants:
- UNAM-DGAPA Postdoctoral Scholarship (2016-2018)
- CONACYT National System of Investigators funding (2016-2018)
- Contributor to EU-funded BlueFish project (2017-2020)
- Lead on EMFF-funded Atlantic Herring Studies (2021-2023)
Teaching & Mentorship: Coordinates tropical marine ecology field courses in Egypt and Wales, supervises MRes students on topics like seagrass biodiversity and disease ecology. She co-leads the Year in Industry program for Biosciences students.
Public Engagement: Writes for The Conversation on marine health topics, including climate-driven disease spread and seagrass ecosystems' role in pathogen containment. Active in public outreach via Swansea Science Festival and Super Science Sunday.
