Charlie Topping is a Lecturer in Psychology at Macquarie University's School of Psychological Sciences, within the Faculty of Medicine, Health, and Human Sciences. They hold a PhD from the University of Warwick (2019), focusing on resilience in adolescent mental health, particularly bullying of LGBTQI+ adolescents and anxiety during school transitions. Their MSc from the University of Reading involved clinical psychology research in an Anxiety and Depression clinic, exploring online CBT for adolescents. Current research interests include mental wellbeing in excessive online gaming, evolutionary theory in modern dating behavior, and student mental wellbeing.
Teaching roles include co-convening PSYU/X3336 Personality and Individual Differences and partial convenorship of PSYU/X3399 PACE: Psychological Science. Education includes a BSc (Hons) and MSc from the University of Reading, followed by a PhD at Warwick. Research collaborations span topics like pain study recruitment (2018) and adolescent resilience (2022).
Recent activities include presenting on gaming's mental health impacts (2025), sustainability in helping professions (2022), and student wellbeing at ACAP (2021). They are a member of Advance HE (2025) and the Society of Australasian Social Psychologists (2022).
