Charles R. Horsburgh, Jr.

Dr. Charles R. Horsburgh, Jr. is a Professor at Boston University with 30 years of experience in public health and medicine. He holds faculty positions in the Departments of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Global Health, and Medicine at Boston University School of Public Health and Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. He teaches courses in Epidemiology of AIDS, Epidemiology of Tuberculosis, and Vaccine Epidemiology.

Dr. Horsburgh’s research focuses on tuberculosis, nontuberculous mycobacterial infections, and opportunistic infections in AIDS, with active projects in Brazil, India, South Africa, Tanzania, Vietnam, and the Philippines. His recent publications examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on TB outcomes, cost-effectiveness of latent TB treatment, and MDR-TB clinical trial design, reflecting a blend of epidemiological modeling, health economics, and global health equity.

Dr. Horsburgh leads the DRAMATIC clinical trial for MDR-TB treatment optimization and chairs the RESIST-TB Steering Committee, an international organization improving MDR-TB care. He also serves as Vice-President of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (IUATLD).
