Rev. Charles L. Howard, PhD, serves as University Chaplain and Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, his alma mater. He holds dual affiliations with the College of Arts & Sciences and the Graduate School of Education. His career includes hospice/hospital chaplaincy and street outreach work with Philadelphia's homeless population.
Research focuses on intersectional theology, poverty alleviation, and expanding theological discourse through works like Black Theology as Mass Movement and The Souls of Poor Folk. A published poet, his recent work explores deepening spiritual understanding through Pond River Ocean Rain.
Teaching spans Penn's multiple divisions and The Lutheran Theological Seminary. Personal commitments include fostering communal joy through faith-based initiatives. Marital status: Married with three daughters.
