Charles Given is a Professor in the College of Nursing at Michigan State University (MSU). His primary prior appointments were in the College of Human Medicine’s Department of Family Medicine. He holds a Ph.D. from MSU and B.S./M.S. degrees from The Ohio State University. His research focuses on behavioral interventions for symptom management in cancer patients, leveraging randomized clinical trials and technologies like automated voice response systems and text messaging. He has conducted cost-benefit analyses of interventions and explored socioeconomic disparities in cancer treatment outcomes through Medicare/Medicaid data. With over 30 years of NIH, AHRQ, and American Cancer Society funding, he currently consults on NCI-funded projects such as the E2C2 pragmatic clinical trial for cancer symptom control.
