Charles Duncan is a Professor of Neurosurgery and Pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine, where he joined the faculty in 1977. He serves as Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery and directs the Neurosurgery Residency Program. Duncan established Connecticut's only dedicated pediatric neurosurgical unit and has published over 100 articles. His education includes a BA from Vanderbilt University (1968), an MD from Duke University (1971), a surgical internship (1971-1972), and neurosurgery residency (1972-1977) at Duke.
His research focuses on pediatric neurosurgery innovations including cerebral blood flow measurement in immature brains, prevention of intraventricular hemorrhage in preterm infants, endoscopic surgery for infants, and neurodevelopmental adaptations to injury. He co-led the groundbreaking Indomethacin Trials adopted in over 75 countries.
Duncan's publications demonstrate consistent focus on neurodevelopmental outcomes, craniosynostosis management, congenital hydrocephalus genetics, and neonatal brain injury prevention. His work integrates clinical neurosurgery with neuroimaging and molecular research.

He has served as principal/co-investigator for 20 funded projects and directs educational initiatives including Coursera anatomy courses and iBooks. Duncan established Yale's pediatric neurosurgery unit and collaborates extensively through the Yale Program in Brain Tumor Research.
