Charles Davis Roberts

Charles Davis Roberts is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he serves as core faculty in the Interactive Media & Game Development program. His research focuses on programming languages, environments, and libraries in digital arts practice, particularly through the development of browser-based creative coding tools like Gibber (http://gibber.cc), screamer (https://charlieroberts.github.io/screamer/playground), and mutter (https://gibber.cc/mtr/playground), which are used for educational research and live audiovisual performances globally.

His work bridges computer science with art through live coding performances in North America, Europe, and Asia, and he co-organized New England's first Algorave at PopUp Worcester to make coding more accessible to students. He has developed educational frameworks for computational media taught at dozens of universities worldwide.

Roberts' creative coding environments integrate with post-processing effects such as antialias, edge detection, motionblur, and godrays, enabling real-time interactive visualization and exploration of mathematical operators, fractals, and geometric transformations.
