Charles Browning is a Part-Time Researcher in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Dayton's School of Engineering. He holds the Torley Endowed Chair in Composite Materials and has extensive experience in advanced materials research and academic leadership. His professional roles include Director of the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate at the Air Force Research Laboratory (1998–2005) and Adjunct Professor at the University of Dayton (1978–2005).
Education: Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from the University of Dayton (1976).
Research Interests: Focus on advanced composite materials, carbon fibers, nanomaterials, and multifunctional materials. His work emphasizes manufacturing processes, lifecycle analysis, and aerospace applications. Collaborations include projects with Nobel Laureate Dr. Richard Smalley and leadership in national panels like the NMAB and NRC.
Awards: Notable honors include the Presidential Meritorious Rank Award (2002), Fellow of SAMPE (1996), and multiple EEO awards for leadership. His contributions span academic, industrial, and governmental sectors.
